Maria Bamford at the Drafthouse Comedy Theater

Maria Bamford

Got some serious advance notice on these shows: March 14 & 15, 2008. Maria’s variety of voices and characters are great on her CDs and the tv appearances I’ve caught. Can’t wait to see her live! Is baby pretty now momma? Looks like she’ll be swinging through DC on Monday, Oct 29 at the Black Cat with the Comedians of Comedy tour too!

Metric at 9:30 Club

Metric did not fail to thoroughly satisfy. Love those shows where each song builds on the last and time becomes irrelevant. The band was incredibly tight yet there was a loose feeling to the music, very alive and vital. Emily Haines was amazing on stage, tons of energy and smiles, everybody in the crowd was pretty much transfixed. Her technical execution, vocally and on the keys, was excellent and her presence was electrifying. Ok, guess I got a little crush on her now.

The set length was perfect for a weeknight and I don’t think anyone there was disappointed by the quality/quantity ratio. Some favorite songs are bound to be missed, they’re releasing the fourth album soon, but that’s what next time is for!

fredline and Worth1000.com on Comedy Central!

The Comedy Central Roast of Jeff Foxworthy featured one of my comedy heroes, Denis Leary. Leary pre-taped some of the usual hijinx, including a poke at former Saturday Night Live fake-news anchor, Colin Quinn. The photo he uses to harrass Quinn was created for the Worth1000.com contest “Fountain of Age 3” back in September of 2003. Its a fair trade-off considering the source image came from ComedyCentral.com, but basically it’s a blast to see hobby work on TV in the hands of a favorite comedian. Sweet!

Big thanks to Avi Muchnick and the admin crew at Worth1000.com for the heaps of fun to be had there.
